I dropped some news about a new Adam Reed (Frisky Dingo, Sealab 2021) show back in July. Last night, I spotted the following promo for the show on FX:
Yep, that’s Jon Benjamin’s voice from Home Movies and many other cartoon series.
I have to say, this is somewhat of a leap for Reed and his company. I hope it pays off. If the source I read in July is still accurate, FX bought 6 episodes. This is all starting to sound like Clerks: The Animated Series. In the director’s commentary track of the first episode Kevin Smith explained the demise of the show.
See, Smith as a logical being went for the big network exposure. He had a choice between a 6 episode deal at ABC or 13 episodes at the UPN. ABC only aired 2 episodes (out of order) and put all their money into Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The network never backed up Smith so it is no wonder he took Reaper to the CW.
Of course, FX has had some real hits. I don’t watch any of the shows, but they seem to have more hits than misses. So, I hope Reed’s Archer does well outside of the cozy home of Adult Swim.
You can watch clips over at FX or you can check out the official site. The series premieres on January 14th, I believe.
