The new OK Go?
Posted by Spike Matthews on Saturday, March 6, 2010

I posted the latest OK Go clip the other day (internal link!). You’re probably a little tired of their slick-as-fu…hell videos, but try and think back to their very first clip…
A Million Ways” had the guys dancing/mucking about in the back garden. Thought up, choreographed and produced by themselves, it was fun, but about as slick and smooth as a teenager’s face.

Getting back to that level, may I present to ye a couple of guys going by the name of French Horn Rebellion. I know, I know; the name’s a bit WTF, but bear in mind that they can’t be what yer thinking if they’re supporting Hot Chip on tour.*
Listening to their music, it’s almost as if the 1970s were disco’d-up by white kids with computers. Insistent beats and a great guitar/vocal line work well, and they do like the synth…
Take a look and enjoy yerself if Hot Chip and MGMT are your thing.
Oh… btw… major WTF alert…

Heh – gotta love the creepy fanboy.
Cheers to Matty fer pointing these guys out.

*Having said that, one of them is an accomplished French horn player…

What if… company logos were the real thing?
Posted by Spike Matthews on Thursday, February 11, 2010

Today, may I present for your viewing pleasure, Logorama, a short film about life in a city on the west coast of the USA, as represented by a multitude of business logos and pop icons. I’ve watched it three times so far, and I’m still finding little references I missed before. One thing I will say is that the film-makers (a French bunch under the name of H5) really don’t seem to like poor old Fido Dido

Slick, sharp and ripe fer litigation, I’d suggest ye watch this before it disappears (Oscar nomination notwithstanding).

For the Fracophones amongst us, here’s the film’s own page: LOGORAMA-THEMOVIE (it’s also a better resolution for watching the film, IMHO)

OK Go vs Video Embedding
Posted by Chris on Monday, January 25, 2010

Below you will find the new OK Go video. The band has made a name for themselves with their videos. Now, that they have a legitimate contract with a real record label(Actually, they’ve been with the same label the whole time. Thanks to a commenter for correcting me),  the viral Youtube style videos that got them where they are today are no longer an option. It would seem that the record label does not allow video embedding ( a pet peeve of mine) which makes getting the video noticed that much harder. It turns out that the record label wants you to watch the video on the youtube page. Then, the label gets paid by Youtube for each time the video is played.

So, not only does OK Go have to deal with an issue of not being able to share their videos like they used to, but they also have to deal with irate fans and frustrated surfers that can’t share the videos with their friends. Therefore, the band taken to the web to respond and share this information. Get more information on one band’s struggle to appease the fans and their corporate pimps –  Open Letter From OK Go, regarding non-embeddable YouTube videos

OK Go’s previous video was cooler in my opinion.

Puma – The Games We Play
Posted by Chris on Monday, January 25, 2010

This set of spots is sort of fun. Sure it’s not very different than a series of commercials from a year or two ago for one of the cell networks, but it’s got style. Interesting how the more technologically advanced we become, the more CG we rely on, the more attracted folks are to making things old school.

Birds + Electric Guitar = Interesting
Posted by Chris on Thursday, January 21, 2010

Since the development of canned instruments & the all powerful Microsoft Songsmith, electric guitars and people are a thing of the past. Apparently French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot has found a good use for those old electric guitars. His installation featuring the results of this experiment will be featured in a London Gallery in February.

RC Plane vs. Fireworks
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Hey, this looks fun. An expensive gamble if the plane and camera actually get hit, but life isn’t about money. Oh wait, we’re capitalists. Everything is about money.

Video Embedding Hell
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, December 16, 2009

uburntube

The web is aflutter with video and therefore filled with copyright infringement. I won’t bore you with a childish rant about not being able to watch free movies & TV shows online. My beef is with the video hosts’ lack of information. I don’t know about you, but when I see the message above I get frustrated with Youtube, not anyone else.
