This Dolphin inspired craft looks like some fun. I had noticed pics of it on a couple of tech sites, but brushed over it. It took chetyre giving me the link before I actually paid it any attention.
It looks like a wild time. The price tag looks like a painful time, $48,000. I’d also be curious how much the thing pollutes the water. Have you ever seen the water behind a jet ski? It’s awful. Oh well, not your problem.
Mr. Fusion from Back to the Future II seems to be a reality. The process is gasification, which was widely used in WWII era vehicles.
Practical? Well, it would be great if it was because we have megatons of trash. Of course, a stove burning in the back of a vehicle might be frowned upon as far as safety, but how is that any different then the stupid hydrogen crap. Basically, it has nothing to do with what works and resources and everything to do with what will make money. Looks like we’ll have to do this stuff ourselves. Luckily, the instructions and more information is available at instructables.
Why is it so hard to type things? When you typed something in DOS, bam it happened. If you got an error, you typed wrong. Computers didn’t have problems because the only world they know is on and off, 1s & 0s. It was bad enough the poor silicon based babies had to try and interpret your mouse movements and clicks into 1s & 0s, now you want to touch their screens and wave your hands around like a bad step dancing crew?
Seriously, do you feel that? There’s an itching sensation on your nose, WAIT don’t scratch it or you’ll erase your project you’ve been working on for months! Quick do two toe touches and a pirouette to escape out so you can scratch your nose.
Similarly, when my cellphone rings, I push a button to answer it. I want to answer my phone calls, I don’t want to high-five my phone or tickle it, I just want to answer the phone.
When I first saw the Kindle, I was in love. Cheap books, lifetime access to them and computer-like functions of searching, highlighting, etc. seemed to me like a great idea. Whenever I spoke about the Kindle, I got that glazed over look from friends who were just thinking, “he’s just a gadget obsessed freak.” At one point, while I was trying to plead the case for Kindle, I said it would be great if text books were available on Kindle because then a college student could spend the $360 for a kindle and the $10 per book each semester instead of $400+ each semester for books.
Supporting my theory that I am bugged, it looks as if Amazon is going to pursue the student version of Kindle.
From jenn2d2, I learned about Shelfari. This is a social networking site for book lovers. Share reviews, show off the books you’ve read with your online bookshelf and get loads of recommended titles from other users.
Lix.in
Alright, have you played with tinyurl, yet? This works virtually the same, however the interface seems cleaner, you can do multiple links at a time and you can embed the code on your site. Seems pretty snazzy to me. Basically, these types of services are used to shorten gigantic links, maybe a large URL to a news story you read. Thanks to chayoss, for this one. UPDATE: OK, I find it a bit annoying that Lix.in takes people who click the link to a Lix.in page that says “continue.”
E-Cycling Central
Finally, it’s time to behave responsibly and dispose of those old gadgets the right way. orangevwbug has suggested the perfect site. At E-Cycling Central you can find the nearest E-recycling center to dispose of that old laptop, tv or back massager.
Is there an #ilj podcast this evening? It feels like forever since I have been to one. Almost as long as it has been since one was posted :P [sikkdays]
