Bridal Diapers
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Hey, it’s summer! Y’know what that means? It’s wedding season.

So, I was surprised to hear a story on Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me (See the Bluff the Listener section) a week ago about Bridal Diapers. Julia Sweeney shared this gem of a story about how difficult it is to get in and out of a wedding dress. Enter the Bridal Diaper. “Sure, it’s uncomfortable and bulky, but they don’t have to worry about missing one minute of the most important day of their lives.” (Forget the rest of the marriage and having kids, I guess. It’s all about the dress and the princess fantasy.)  This is the day you’ve been planning since you were 7.

“Sweeney caps the story off with Plus, what better way to bond with aging new in-laws than over undergarments and their absorbency rates.”  Apparently, many brides simply buy Depends and spruce them up with some lace and frill. You can see a picture over at The Frisky.

What a sexy wedding night, yes? How romantic would it be if the bride was grunting through number 2 as she said “I do.”

Germans in the Woods

Story matters. The animation suffers from a lack of frames, but it doesn’t matter. The important part of this piece is the story. The audio is from the StoryCorps archive, an organization dedicated to recording the personal histories of our friends and family.

I have heard many clips from the StoryCorps on National Public Radio. It is a great project.

I poked the site for my 4 loyal readers. Now you can share you joy, apathy or disdain with the blog posts by clicking the little colored buttons below. In reality, I don’t know why I included the apathy button in the middle. I’d imagine an apathetic reader wouldn’t care to click it.

NBC Late Night
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, June 3, 2009

I heard this great opinion piece on NPR and I am so glad somebody said it. I haven’t watched a late night talk show in quite a while. I am bored with the scripted conversations and complete lack of spontaneity. Conan is a funny guy, but he got that reputation in the early hours of the day when he had nothing to lose. That was the charm of Letterman back in the day, putting everything on the line, besides a budget, for a laugh. When he moved to CBS the show lost that spark in my opinion. There’s a chance that his move may have coincided with my boredom of late night shows, but if you watch a clip of the old Letterman show you can notice a difference in the energy level. I fear this is Conan’s path now.

Anyway, check out this audio piece(or read it) on NPR. Why so many talk shows, NBC? The author points out NBC’s master formula, beat the horse until it dies. Can you say, “Law & Order: Mutant Samurai Lunchboxes?” Or whatever the hell they’re producing now.

  • Listening to NPR the other night I heard this story of someone who is debt-free. It was very inspiring. Click the link and find the audio controls under Running A Debt-Free Business
  • Buy me this? It is sort of GREAT. Called for Help
  • Everyone on twitter was twitterpated about the idaft thing, in case you missed it.
  • boingboing had a nice little blurb about more (if that is possible) youtube video takedowns. This time they attacked poor little baby videos.
  • Science win: Found: The source of belly-button lint.

Saturday Morning Watchmen
Posted by Chris on Thursday, March 5, 2009

The review of the Watchmen on NPR made it sound exactly as I feared.  This may be a better viewing option.

This will be viral on every other blog.
