Linked In …to what?
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, November 24, 2009

You can skip my rant and just watch the video.

I was just saying on Twitter how amazing it is to me that people are so eager to receive junk mail & advertising. I mean if someone asks for your name and address you get defensive about your privacy, unless they throw the words “Social Network” in front of their proposal.

Now we have people out there calling themselves professionals who are labeled Social Marketing experts. The job is to advertise the company they work for on social networks like twitter, facebook, etc. The name of the game is exposure. Forget quality interactions, lets just see how many fans we can get on our Facebook fan page because that means more customers! Let us worship our all mighty god QUANTITY!! As consumerism is our religion, MORE is our goal.

The folks who lampooned twitter have called out the LinkedIn in the following video.

Balance vs. Poverty, Blog Action Day 2008
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, October 14, 2008

When we were in grade school, we learned lots of important lessons.  For example, I posted this example in September of 2007.  Have a look again.

When I was in high school I found those commercials begging me to support children overseas, “for the price of a cup of coffee a day,” infuriating.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t want kids to starve, but I didn’t understand how we could spend so much time and money on strangers when I could walk down the sidewalk and see homeless people in my own neighborhood, my own country.  See, I have always been a believer in the idea of  “leading by example.”  How can we claim to be concerned with humanity and basic human rights if we don’t even supply our neighbors and citizens with these things?

Some Old Favorites of Mine
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, August 29, 2007

The following are some videos that I have always enjoyed. There are some interesting animations, silliness and thought provoking content in this batch of videos. I have posted them here for your benefit and as a reference for myself. I try to do my best to stay away from being redundant and posting the latest greatest Internet sensations, so I hope you enjoy these. Of course, I had to watch them all again when I found them, so if you have seen any of these enjoy them a second time. If I ever sent you something of interest, remind me so I can post it here.

This animation was inspiring to me, I couldn’t get it out of my head and I wanted to try to figure out how to do it. Eventually, I made the “Clash of Ideologies: War on _____” which you can find on the video page here at sikkdays. For more information on this piece, try here.

Youtube:

I saw More online back in 2000. This animation, by Mark Osbourne, was nominated for an academy award in 1998. His website is here.

Youtube:

Honestly, I don’t remember how I got exposed to these little wonders, but I just sat there and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. This video is a compilation of Rube Goldberg Machines that apparently play in the beginning and end of a Japanese kids show called PythagoraSwitch. I guess that is why I find them so entertaining, they appeal to my mental level. :) If you don’t find the video amazing, you’ll love the music.

Dailymotion:

If you really did find these entertaining, there is another batch here. An added bonus, there’s a strange little dance in the middle of this video. Sorry, the network that owns the show pulled the original video I saw (minus the dance) on Youtube.
