PMOG Link Monday vol. 20

LATE!

I blame the #pmog channel on IRC for this post being late.  Chatting and being taunted by fellow players distracted me from posting.  Thus, I’ve decided to share some funny links with you that other players posted in #pmog.

Fail

I love me some Fail blog and bunni3burn shared the following with the channel.

Cheaters!

PUPPIES!

So, this live video feed of puppies has been going around the last couple of days and lehall posted a link to the puppies’ newly created Twitter account.  So, if you want to try and translate your cutesy, animal baby talk to say something to the critters, go for it.

Musical Accompaniment

skawesome dropped the Sad Trombone on the #pmog channel when I was in there.  A great link to pass onto someone deserving. Later, zous also brought out the Sad Trombone, probably to one of my lame comments.  In response masteraramil mentioned Instant Rim Shot, sorry it’s a musical link too you perv.

Dramatic Lemur

pixielo introduced me to the dramatic lemur.

Fortune Cookies

At some point our conversation turned to fortune cookies and chetyre gave us a link to the following Upright Citizen’s Brigade skit.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 19
Posted by Chris on Monday, November 3, 2008

Missions on PMOG have been sort of wonky lately, but I have managed to find you some new stuff around the web.

One Word

A mission by user candyrain brought me to oneword.  A great place for inspiration or a quick exercise to get through that writer’s block.  Check it out, I found it interesting.

Brothers-Brick

User candyrain also introduced me to a blog about Legos.  Of course, there’s a blog for Legos, why wouldn’t there be?  Yet, I have never been there until recently.  Now, I am inspired to dig up the Legos so I have another timekiller.  Pretty soon, I’ll have so many timekillers that I won’t have to be a productive member of society.  Who am I kidding, I am already there.

Howard The Duck

I totally forgot about that crazy movie.  Thanks to denndragon for the reminder.  The website looks like it’s pretty old, but I was just happy to remember the film.  I must put it on my Netflix so that I can bring Sikkdays readers another So Bad It’s Good Review, like Zardoz Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, or these gems.

Pachelbel’s Canon in D

I’m sure those of you that are band geeks will enjoy this more than the rest of us, but bcb’s mission brought me this funny video about why all our top 40 crap sounds alike.

Hopefully, missions on PMOG will start working a bit better soon.  I’ve already noticed some decent changes, I’m just having some major issues with broken missions that are 4-8 months old.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 18
Posted by Chris on Monday, October 27, 2008

This week PMOG missions have added some new reference websites to my bookmarks and I found a bit weirdness.

Politifact.org

I have heard the name of the website throughout the campaign, but never really took the time to visit it as I figured it was like most of the other fact checking sites.  Yet, thanks to speckledfrog’s mission I was taken to the site and I got to see their truth-o-meters on various statements made by the candidates.  Really clean and quick way to find out the truthfulness of a potential leader’s claim.  BONUS:  Another great site from speckledfrog, ontheissues.org.  The site does its best to show visitors the stance of politicians in each state on a number of issues.

Wisebread

I am pretty damn frugal, but in today’s economy it is only going to get worse.  Wisebread is an informative blog to help users with finances.  The tag line is “living large on a small budget.”  Thanks to PMOG user elke for this one.

Gnovies

Honestly, I have seen some better cloud mapping interfaces, but the idea of Gnovies is solid.  Type in the name of a movie and it will show you a number of similar films.  Suggested by rasputin4, the site offers you a number of choices for movie night when you are in the mood for something comparable to a favorite.

Wig Wam Bam

PMOG user bobcows introduced me to the bubblegum scene.  Growing up listening to oldies, I was already familiar with the concept and many of the songs, but I have never heard the Wig Wam Bam before.  Every once and a while, I like to throw a music video on the site and challenge you to watch it all the way through without bleeding from your eyes.  This would probably fall in that category.

Lampshades

Finally, thekatiest brilliantly designed a mission all about lampshades.  The following how to video is…well…stomach turning, yet enlightening.

BONUS:  I also enjoyed the pudding cup lamp.

vol 17

No Sweat Apparel

Sweatshops are a product of our desire to have cheaper goods and these days it can be difficult to name one company that actually makes their clothes in the U.S. I found this link to No Sweat Apparel thanks to PMOG user anthrogeek.

Last Google

Sometimes you search for something that is so popular, you have to dig a few pages through Google to find what you need. At least that’s what I think Last Google was created for, who knows? Brought to me by a mission by one of my allies, chetyre.

FAIL.

I love me some FailBlog.org so I jumped at the chance to take mortmer’s mission of fail. It seems that a few blogs claim to be the original Fail Blog. Whatever, just more chances for us to laugh at the expense of others. Superfail, Shipment of Fail, Fail Dogs and the RotSky Institute can be added to your Fail viewing.

Museum of Bad Art

The biggest donor to this museum goes by the name of “trash.” The web page for MOBA is intriguing, though I think it would be much better to visit in person. It is nice to know that my work may end up in a museum, after all. Thanks to gaber for enlightening me with this museum of fail.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 16
Posted by Chris on Sunday, October 12, 2008

This past week brings mostly bizarreness.

FiveThirtyEight

First up, I have got a political site for those of you who actually think your vote counts.  Pardon my cynicism, but it is all up to the antiquated system of the electoral college.  There are 538 electoral votes, and that brings us to this site.  Its got all sorts of graphs and figures to tell you who is winning.  Thanks to PMOG user, philharmonic, for the comments in another mission, I found FiveThirtyEight.com.   My political projection?  Everybody poops.    (stole that link from user mmmpi)

Monoface

Speaking of mmmpi, her mission brought me to monoface.   The site isn’t the newest or most original idea, but it is a clean interface and a fun timekiller.  Think Conan O’Brien’s If They Mated feature.  Enjoy.

World Beard Championships

I tried to take this mission by skawesome dedicated to beards, but it broke down.  I did get treated to 3 great sites before it quit.  I chose the World Championship site for my four blog readers, as I am sure you are interested in the governing body of such a competition.  Well, at least they have an interesting gallery of pictures.  Find yourself a new avatar.

Instant-Origami

There are loads of sites dedicated to the art of Origami, but Instant-Origami is all about speed.  The videos are not sped up, it is real time amazement.  Paper folding at a blistering speed brought to me and you by predhunter13.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 15
Posted by Chris on Monday, October 6, 2008

Jumping right into the PMOG missions I took this week, here’s the goods–

Religulous vs. Expelled

The friendly atheist blog has an article from the Orlando Sentinel comparing Ben Stein’s Expelled to Bill Maher’s Religulous.  A while back I shared my opinion on the Ben Stein film produced to discredit the idea of evolution.   I have yet to see Expelled or Religulous, but I hope to see both.  The article comparing  the films was very interesting and I found it thanks to a mission by deixado leading me to the friendlyatheist.com

OVGuide

Thanks to PMOG user clicktok, I’ve got a new place to search for TV shows & movies online.  OVGuide is a site that allows users to search for video content from over 1600 sites.  I am looking forward to catching up with some bad TV there.

Totem Destroyer

totem, yo!I could have posted this volume of PMOG Link Monday much sooner, but I spent an hour playing Totem Destroyer.  If you lose track of what day it is because you are having so much fun, blame gbelste not me.  I am warning you that it is addictingly fun.

A Fair(y) Use Tale

Finally, I took a mission on copyright law to see what sort of resources were presented by the PMOG user.  It was mostly sites that I already seen, but another user, allyson posted this video link in the comments:

I thought they used a great concept  to discuss copyright.

PMOG Link Monday: Revisted
Posted by Chris on Monday, September 29, 2008

Currently, the latest toolbar used to play PMOG will not allow me to complete any missions, which is the source for the bulk of my PMOG Link Monday blog posts. I have all the confidence that this will be remidied quickly and I am looking forward to new features. The overlords of PMOG have opened a portal through time and taken players back to the days of beta. The decision was made to allow the coding monkeys to experiment with new goodies built into Firefox 3. Thus, this may be a good time to review all the finds I have made since I started playing this game.

Thus Far…

Volume 1: Congress, Comics and absolutely no Smurf websites.

Volume 2: Online betas, alternative energy, IE sucks, Strange collaborative writing, Raising money.

Volume 3: Armstrong & Miller sketch comedy, freakin’ hilarious.

Volume 4: Get organized you putz, Grand Central, Remember the Milk & Jott. Nude runway models eating borscht, not included.

Volume 5: Book lovers, Linking, Recycling. The rights to this volume has been sold to Michael “boom-boom” Bay.

Volume 6: Procrastination animation, Anonymity, Why play this game?

Volume 7: Twitter tools! Spelling and grammar errors in volume 7 are intended to make me sexy.

Volume 8: Word tools, Nerf Herder video for Mr. Spock.

Volume 9: Toast is delicious, The periodic table of Awesomeness, Anti-social networking and one bad joke that is so bad, it is good.

Volume 10: Open-source Vector Art application, Customers & Ridiculous job applicants, Homemade Sex Toys.

Volume 11: After Doomsday, Fox News Porn, Pac-man and no references to cabbage, SNL and poker tournaments.

Volume 12: Hide your porn, perv. Famous Last Words, Geek Flow Chart, Local News. Porn, local news and sausage all in the same post FTW!

Volume 13: Hypermiling, The LHC, Paper Cut Outs, and teeny-tiny homes.

Volume 14: Music & Cynicism.   This post is now Barry Manilow free!

If you haven’t tried PMOG, go check out the video on the main page.  I know, you are one of those people who doesn’t want to waste time playing a game, you have better things to do.  Guess what?  This game is perfect for you, because you are passively playing anytime your browser is open and you are doing other things (or turn it off).
