space-monalisa

Thanks to the Seers last week on the Nethernet I was introduced to a few of bizarre & fun links. I thought I should share. (I apologize to my fellow players for not keeping track of the individuals who sent me to these places.) I also had some goodies in a folder waiting to be shared.

Daily Costume – A great site if you are looking to find something to wear on casual Friday. Loads of photos of people dressed as their favorite fictional character. Is it me or has dressing up (Halloween, theme parties, etc.) just boiled down to “How slutty can I be?”

Play-Doh Cologne – Do you remember that smell from your childhood? Did it make you hot? Who are the perverts that created this?

RunPee – Like the Movie Stinger, which tells you if there is a scene after the credits, RunPee tells you when the opportune time to pee is. User maintained, so go share.

Velvet Vulva – Can you guess what these purses look like? I really like that one of the first lines on the site is “You can never have too many Vulvas!”

Cat Photographer – Everyone thinks they are a photographer these days. Cooper the cat seems to have proven that theory. There goes my thesis on hairballs, I’m sure he already did it.

Cassette Tuesday – Another single serving site that collects photos of cassettes. I found it entertaining.

LaserPortraits – Again, more photo blog weirdness. This site is deditcated to those awesome laser backgrounds from your school pictures. Enjoy. (via iLoveVerdi‘s tweet)

Set Editions – If you’ve been reading this far, you probably want to send me one of these business cards. They have some other interesting bundles too.

Die Hard Death Map – Where does Mclane off the bad guys? Inquiring minds wanted to know.

Dudes & Deloreans – A tribute to the stainless steel transportation of the future.

meatlocker?

  • Listening to NPR the other night I heard this story of someone who is debt-free. It was very inspiring. Click the link and find the audio controls under Running A Debt-Free Business
  • Buy me this? It is sort of GREAT. Called for Help
  • Everyone on twitter was twitterpated about the idaft thing, in case you missed it.
  • boingboing had a nice little blurb about more (if that is possible) youtube video takedowns. This time they attacked poor little baby videos.
  • Science win: Found: The source of belly-button lint.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 5
Posted by Chris on Monday, July 7, 2008

Shelfari

From jenn2d2, I learned about Shelfari. This is a social networking site for book lovers. Share reviews, show off the books you’ve read with your online bookshelf and get loads of recommended titles from other users.

Lix.in

Alright, have you played with tinyurl, yet? This works virtually the same, however the interface seems cleaner, you can do multiple links at a time and you can embed the code on your site. Seems pretty snazzy to me. Basically, these types of services are used to shorten gigantic links, maybe a large URL to a news story you read. Thanks to chayoss, for this one.  UPDATE:  OK, I find it a bit annoying that Lix.in takes people who click the link to a Lix.in page that says “continue.”

E-Cycling Central

Finally, it’s time to behave responsibly and dispose of those old gadgets the right way. orangevwbug has suggested the perfect site. At E-Cycling Central you can find the nearest E-recycling center to dispose of that old laptop, tv or back massager.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 4
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Okay, so Mondays come way too fast for me to try some of this stuff out. It might help if I played PMOG more, lately I haven’t had the time. Though, if I only did the PMOG Link thing once a month, I’d probably never get around to actually writing it up. Sounds like I need to be more organized. Perhaps the links from yubbie’s mission, Innovative new sites you probably haven’t used to manage your life, can help me.

GrandCentral

So unlike me, you currently have a job and a personal life. You also have a phone for the job and a phone for the personal life. This beta will give you one number and one voicemail to get all your calls. You can have it ring all of your phones to find you, or tell it which phone to send certain people. At this very moment, you have to be invited by someone, but it seems damn handy to me.

Remember the Milk

I know plenty of people, in my daydreams that is, and some of them often call their own answering machines or voicemail to remind themselves of something. I know I am guilty of sending myself an email to remind me of something. Well, Rememberthemilk.com is all about tasks and lists. It’s a versatile little web app. that can work with your Google Calender and various other web apps, phones, blackberries, etc. I have heard several people mention this site a few times, but never played with it. Organizing my life might get me that much closer to adulthood which is definitely something this 35yr. old doesn’t want.

Jott

Hey, remember my imaginary friends above, who call their own voicemail? Call Jott, leave a voicemail and Jott will send you a text reminder, an email reminder or even publish the translated voicemail to the Google calendar or that fun new toy, rememberthemilk.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 2
Posted by Chris on Monday, June 9, 2008

Okay, PMOG is a game that you ‘play’ as you surf the web. Read more here. Since you earn points as you go about your normal surfing there is an aspect of the game called missions. Simply put, missions are a list of links put together by other players. As I take missions, I find some great links and each Monday I am going to do my best to share the latest finds.

MoMB

The Museum of Modern Beta is the home of the next best thing, well, maybe. A quick daily for you to visit to find the next great site or online service before your friends. Thanks for the link user, speckledfrog.

Alternative Energy News

This is a groovy green tech blog. If you like cruising the technology blogs, this is another to add to your list. The only exception, this blog filter’s out all those not so green gadgets and shows you the stuff powered with, guess what? Thanks pmogger, anguis.

403day

For the love of all that is holy, who is using Internet Explorer? This website advertises March 4th 2008 as 403 day, a protest against IE.  Yes, we are late.  The ‘why’ is all explained simply and shortly on the page. Of course, you can’t go there if you use IE. Thanks for the link, tekkguy.

Write Something

This is a strange little experimental site where any visitor can ‘write something.’ Perhaps it has potential, I mean if a bunch of sad high school kids don’t visit it each day whining about their dismal relationships. However, if you need to blow off some steam without actually speaking directly to the person you are mad at, go for it. It looks fairly anonymous. Just a suggestion, I mean blasting your best friend on your livejournal, that she reads, seems like a bad idea. Thanks for the link, vendetta.

Pledgie

This is a place for you to raise money for that special cause, like raising money for that moob reduction I have always wanted. Seriously, you can raise money for a cause quite easily. People can donate through the mother of all internet transactions, paypal.

Sites That Get More Hits Than Sikkdays
Posted by Chris on Friday, June 6, 2008

Instead of spending the time promoting Sikkdays.com to get more hits, I engaged in an exercise of self-loathing. So, here are a few sites that get more hits than we do:

  • I am a turtle- Yes, here you can learn how to say, “I am a turtle,” in many different languages.
  • Counting Sheep-Having trouble sleeping? Nope, don’t come here, you’ll just be annoyed.
  • Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man-Okay, they can have more hits than Sikkdays.
  • Open the Door-Really? Just stop right now, there’s nothing there. Seriously, stop! You’ll go insane.
  • End of the Internet-Yes, an old joke, most likely designed by everyone’s uncles.
  • lalalaa!-Annoy your co-workers, turn on the speakers & leave for lunch after clicking this link.

  • purple-Yes, that is it. Devilishly clever and more popular.

Now that you’ve wasted as much time as I did, I don’t feel so bad. Have a great weekend, sucker.

PMOG Link Monday
Posted by Chris on Monday, May 26, 2008

Okay, PMOG is a game that you ‘play’ as you surf the web. Read more here. Since you earn points as you go about your normal surfing there is an aspect of the game called missions. Simply put, missions are a list of links put together by other players. As I take missions, I find some great links and each Monday I am going to do my best to share the latest finds.

One aspect of game is earning badges sometimes for game play and use of game tools and other times for visiting certain sites on a regular basis. This week, as I looked at the new badges rolled out, I found a few sites of interest.

Change Congress

Change-congress.org “is a national movement to end corruption in America’s congress. We’re organizing citizens to push candidates to make four simple commitments: No money from lobbyists or PACs, Vote to end earmarks, Support reform to increase Congressional transparency, Support publicly-financed campaigns.”

Just 6 Dollars

This website has more information about campaign finance reform. Both sites had some great reading material.

xkcd

xkcd is a tremendously popular web comic that you may have already seen, but I first found it at PMOG. The comics are hit or miss, but quite clever and entertaining for the most part.

Stay tuned for more, the community on PMOG is awesome, met some great people with some really cool links to share.
