Fontplore

Um… The idea behind this isn’t just about helping you find the right font for your design, but “we see the Fontplore Table as some kind of customer attraction for the bigger design agencies, where clients and designers get together and share the experience of selecting a suitable typeface for the project.”

Perhaps my friends are just as grumpy as me, but they always tell me they very much dislike having clients sitting over their shoulders telling them how to design. The table looks bad ass, but is it practical? Can you imagine this thing at work? Yeah, I am stuck with a 9 year old desktop system with two CRT monitors and outdated software, but my boss bought a an interactive table for the specific purpose of picking the right font. The table does nothing but that. We can’t even eat lunch at it.

This is a fun video installation. Of course, I am a fan of video installations and pinball so they had me at ‘hello.’

Wait for it to load. Even after the paragraph shows up, it takes a bit. Then click play & move your mouse around.

I saw this over at uncertain times, short, fun, colorful and did I mention short?

After checking out the vimeo page, I found that they made an interactive version:

Interactive Animated Fireworks
Posted by Chris on Friday, July 25, 2008

The description sounded cool.  I have seen some interactive graffiti stuff before and thought this was along that line, but I have to say it just seems like the fireworks are rather boring.  Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean.  I figured that the way people triggered the fireworks would cause them to appear in different colors, at least.  I just don’t make the connection between the sensor and the fireworks.  Maybe this is just a poor video showing off what they can do.  Have a peep, if you are interested in the technology, drop a comment and I will go searching for some of the graffiti stuff and post it.

Description from the site:

Pyro(technics) to the People is an innovative and engaging interactive experience which challenges the passive relationship an audience traditionally has with public firework events. Successfully piloted at the Brighton Digital Festival in November 2007 it uses sensor-powered technology, triggered by the audience, to determine the style and intensity of the display of specially created Flash animation.
