Palin Supporters at a Book Signing
Posted by Chris on Sunday, November 29, 2009

This video has been everywhere because liberal folks like seeing that they are right.  No, I don’t like Sarah Palin. I just think the video is a sad commentary on our political system all together. It’s all about image.

via Gawker

We get real caught up in image. Look at Obama, gays & lesbians just assumed he was behind them. Yet, he defended DOMA.

Elections are just elaborate marketing campaigns, now. And everyone knows that advertisers always make claims about their products that just aren’t true. We joke about the fine print that is barely readable. Bush & Gore pandered to voters so much in the 2000 election that many political cartoons & sketch comedy shows joked that they were the same person.

Tell the people what they want to hear to get their vote. Once elected, make the corporations/lobbyists happy. Fuck the people.

INTERESTING: Boycott ghostwritten books designed for branding.

News is Entertainment
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Years ago, people like Neil Postman professed it would happen. In the transition from sharing information to entertainment the news has not only lost focus, but is a disservice to the people. When market shares and ratings dictate news coverage, controversy equals entertainment. Videos & the rant after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Video Blog: Ahh-nold for President!
Posted by Chris on Monday, November 10, 2008

Well, supposedly the biggest election in our lifetime just happened.  I am sad that my candidate, Schwarzenegger, was unable to run.  In 2003, I had to design a magazine layout in a graphic design course and I created the two page spread below.  The assignment was all about layout and we didn’t have to write anything, but I am an overachiever.

Schwarzenegger for Pres!

I was content to post the contents from the faux article above, but then I figured it might be an opportunity to make a new video blog since I haven’t done one in a while.  It’s probably not as good as the last one about porn, but here it is anyway.

So much for my Twitter use making me less long-winded.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 18
Posted by Chris on Monday, October 27, 2008

This week PMOG missions have added some new reference websites to my bookmarks and I found a bit weirdness.

Politifact.org

I have heard the name of the website throughout the campaign, but never really took the time to visit it as I figured it was like most of the other fact checking sites.  Yet, thanks to speckledfrog‘s mission I was taken to the site and I got to see their truth-o-meters on various statements made by the candidates.  Really clean and quick way to find out the truthfulness of a potential leader’s claim.  BONUS:  Another great site from speckledfrog, ontheissues.org.  The site does its best to show visitors the stance of politicians in each state on a number of issues.

Wisebread

I am pretty damn frugal, but in today’s economy it is only going to get worse.  Wisebread is an informative blog to help users with finances.  The tag line is “living large on a small budget.”  Thanks to PMOG user elke for this one.

Gnovies

Honestly, I have seen some better cloud mapping interfaces, but the idea of Gnovies is solid.  Type in the name of a movie and it will show you a number of similar films.  Suggested by rasputin4, the site offers you a number of choices for movie night when you are in the mood for something comparable to a favorite.

Wig Wam Bam

PMOG user bobcows introduced me to the bubblegum scene.  Growing up listening to oldies, I was already familiar with the concept and many of the songs, but I have never heard the Wig Wam Bam before.  Every once and a while, I like to throw a music video on the site and challenge you to watch it all the way through without bleeding from your eyes.  This would probably fall in that category.

Lampshades

Finally, thekatiest brilliantly designed a mission all about lampshades.  The following how to video is…well…stomach turning, yet enlightening.

BONUS:  I also enjoyed the pudding cup lamp.

HBO Hosted Debates

The Onion had this great sound bite about the HBO debates.

Very clever, as usual.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 16
Posted by Chris on Sunday, October 12, 2008

This past week brings mostly bizarreness.

FiveThirtyEight

First up, I have got a political site for those of you who actually think your vote counts.  Pardon my cynicism, but it is all up to the antiquated system of the electoral college.  There are 538 electoral votes, and that brings us to this site.  Its got all sorts of graphs and figures to tell you who is winning.  Thanks to PMOG user, philharmonic, for the comments in another mission, I found FiveThirtyEight.com.   My political projection?  Everybody poops.    (stole that link from user mmmpi)

Monoface

Speaking of mmmpi, her mission brought me to monoface.   The site isn’t the newest or most original idea, but it is a clean interface and a fun timekiller.  Think Conan O’Brien’s If They Mated feature.  Enjoy.

World Beard Championships

I tried to take this mission by skawesome dedicated to beards, but it broke down.  I did get treated to 3 great sites before it quit.  I chose the World Championship site for my four blog readers, as I am sure you are interested in the governing body of such a competition.  Well, at least they have an interesting gallery of pictures.  Find yourself a new avatar.

Instant-Origami

There are loads of sites dedicated to the art of Origami, but Instant-Origami is all about speed.  The videos are not sped up, it is real time amazement.  Paper folding at a blistering speed brought to me and you by predhunter13.
