The World’s Largest Dodgeball Game

The view from above is pretty cool. Beyond that I feel like I am trying to compete with the awful quality of the local news on television by posting this.

I’ll be honest; I don’t watch much TV at all. Of course, it doesn’t help our TV can only get BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4. So, when ye take into account the fact I hate reality shows, puerile sitcoms, chat shows, sport and anything involving Jonathan Ross, Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan, there’s not a lot left over, really. And cookery shows begin to pall fairly soon.
All this is why there are occasions like this which give me a little hope for a better viewing future: Over in the Ukraine, they have their own programmes, but even they have some of the ubiquitous claptrap, such as talent shows. Their content, however, shows a willingness to try something a little more worthy than karaoke.
Witness then, Kseniya Simonova, the winner of last year’s Ukraine’s Got Talent. I defy you to be moved by her sand-art performance.

What if… company logos were the real thing?
Posted by Spike Matthews on Thursday, February 11, 2010

Today, may I present for your viewing pleasure, Logorama, a short film about life in a city on the west coast of the USA, as represented by a multitude of business logos and pop icons. I’ve watched it three times so far, and I’m still finding little references I missed before. One thing I will say is that the film-makers (a French bunch under the name of H5) really don’t seem to like poor old Fido Dido

Slick, sharp and ripe fer litigation, I’d suggest ye watch this before it disappears (Oscar nomination notwithstanding).

For the Fracophones amongst us, here’s the film’s own page: LOGORAMA-THEMOVIE (it’s also a better resolution for watching the film, IMHO)

Sourcemap
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, February 10, 2010

I am very excited about this new project online. Not too long ago, there were a few gimmick authors who tried to just buy American for a year, but I have to bet it would be nearly impossible these days. Especially, when you break each item down to their parts and not just where it is assembled. The video is not terribly exciting, but the project, Sourcemap, is a really cool idea.

Globalization is this buzzword we’ve been hearing for the last 20 years, but we tend to think of its effects on us as individual communities. I find it interesting that business is the only area where we (as in nations of the world) can work together fairly painlessly. Everyone wants to make money. It’s just unfortunate that many of these ventures hurt our environment, and food security because the priority is profit now.

I’d like to argue that we should aim for a sustainable global community. Think about it. When someone in America buys a house the goal is basically profit. Money is no longer being thrown away on rent. Instead, it is an investment in the future. For example, why fish our seas with reckless abandonment right now for profit, when we could invest in our future? Not only the future of the food source for humanity, but the future of income and work for the fisherman, the folks who process the fish and the companies that sell them to the grocery stores.

Just my idealistic two cents.

I’m on a Mac
Posted by Chris on Monday, December 28, 2009

While it is true that I use Apple’s OS, I am not a fanboy. I prefer it over Windows for everyday use, but I will use whatever is necessary to get a job done.

I can’t swear fanboy allegiance to Macs because I simply can’t think of one Mac user that hasn’t had a hardware issue of some kind, from iPod to desktop. Thus, they are no better than any of the crappy PC manufacturers. Of course without Apple fanboys, there would be no such thing as a Microsoft fanboy. Seems to be the only time people come out of the woodwork to defend Microsoft is when some douchebag does something like this:

Owning a Mac is like being an atheist for me. I don’t want to admit it because I’ll be persecuted. Smug, obnoxious people who will probably make this song their ringer on the iPhone make regular users like me look bad.

If you like the song, maybe you’ll like their other video, Mac or PC.

What Beer Should You Drink?

Home from work? Time to relax? What Should I Drink? Beer Edition seems to be well researched. I also enjoyed the What Should I Eat? Cereal Edition. So, if you are hitting this page in your morning routine, use that chart to find the right breakfast.
