Music is my opiate of choice and, like any junkie, I would go to great lengths to feed my addiction. I have two hi-fi separates systems, an mp3 player, a hard drive with nearly ¼million tracks on it and any number of small CD players dotted around the house.
My father, on the other hand, is an audiophile. Believing in quality over quantity, he needs (due to poor hearing quality) to have extremely clear sound. Quality of this calibre, of course, takes money. Great gobs of it. I’m happy with a pair of speakers that cost me roughly £100. Dad? Nothing less than four figures.
Which is why I WON’T be showing him this admittedly sweet bit of turntable…

Manufactured by Da Vinci Audio Labs, the paint job is classed as ‘Ferrari red’ and the general design has been created with the industrial manufacture of records in mind (explaining the depth of the turntable itself). All for a measly $64,000.
Blimey; I swear I could hear that intake of breath there. Bit pricey for ye? Too high-end? Okay, how about this then? It’s made with corrugated card and you turn the 7″ disc yourself, using a pencil. Now, that’s what I call lo-fi.

The only trouble with this specimen is that it’s primarily an advertising medium, and not on general release. Still, kudos to GGRP fer showing off their tech skills…
