Something Awful: Anagrammed Movies 3
Posted by Chris on Wednesday, July 30, 2008

So the Photoshop Phriday philistines  forum goons made the anagrammed movie posters a while back and I just saw them.  No, they didn’t figure out the movies’ personality types, that oddity is enneagram.  The goons rearranged the letters in the title to spell something else.  Click below to see more and get the link to the rest.

PMOG Link Monday vol. 7
Posted by Chris on Sunday, July 27, 2008

Oops, last week I didn’t make a post and I apologize.  I got this job out of the blue, and well, I so want to tell you about the craziness and provide you with video, but I could get into some trouble for that.  Anyway, we’re back this week!

 Twist

Well, I am a total twitter whore and I have played with loads of applications and tools related to the service.  However, methodshop introduced me to Twist.  This service allows you to compare the usage of terms on twitter.  For example, I chose to compare ‘science’ & ‘god’ in the graph below.  I figured that would be fun since the inception of ohmyscience.org, that I discussed here.

graphtastic

Twubble

The other interesting tool that methodshop introduced me to was Twubble.  This web magic has you login and then it finds people you may want to follow.  Basically, it looks at all of the people you are following and then looks the people they are following.  So, say 3 of your friends are following the same person Twubble displays the person’s name and lets you know who’s following them. I really like the Google link next to the name too, so you can go find out more about the individual.

Hellotxt

I have yet to try this little gem, but hellotxt allows you to update your status to a number of social networking sites, all at once.  Update Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, friendfeed and many more all from one website.  Thanks to PMOGer breanne for the find.

Spaz

A friend and a fellow PMOGer, djweso, pointed me toward Spaz.  This is a twitter client that you can run to keep up with your friends and tweet without having your browser open.  I have played with Twitterfox and Twitterrific also, but Spaz seems pretty damn cool because it is available for Mac, PC, and Linux.  For the most part, however, I am perfectly happy with using Twitter in the browser.

I Am Not a Fanboy, I Swear
Posted by Chris on Saturday, July 26, 2008

When the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica air there’s going to be a few auctions to get rid of some of those funky props.  If fuel wasn’t so damn expensive I’d get me one of those Vipers.  Then, I decided I would rather have me a Number Six.  Of course being a Sci-Fi geek, I can have neither of these unless I go upstairs and convince my mom and dad to buy me one.  That would be funny, if it wasn’t so horrifically true.

Anyway, the auction anouncement is here.

Insurance is expensive

Later, I have to go check on my ebay bid for a mint, in box Zena action figure.

This Phone is Tapped
Posted by Chris on Saturday, July 26, 2008

 wallpaper for your mobile

So, I was listening to NPR a couple of weeks ago and they were talking about FISA, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.  Basically FISA, an act passed in the late ’70′s, has been re-tooled to make government eavesdropping warrant-less and protects phone companies from sued by customers who dislike the idea of their phone calls and records being turned over to authorities without a warrant.  FISA was signed into law after all your favorite democrats and rebulicans voted it through, even Obama.

Thus, I decided to make a new wallpaper for my phone.  Grab it and use it if you wish.  The picture is slightly larger than the screen size of my phone in hopes that you’ll be able to resize it to fit yours.  If not, I can probably find the original file for you if you ask.

The War on Terrorism has done more to control us than it has to protect us.  I used to doubt the power of our government to fight a war against a word, a concept, a broad idealism that comes about from the very totalitarian methods the War has imposed.  Now, I worry about its success.  I worry about living in a country whose laws are no different than Communist China or Russia.  More than the government, I worry about the companies that they’ll contract out to in order to spy on us.  The saying goes, ‘rules are meant to be broken.’  In today’s world, it seems like laws are loopholes waiting to be found.

It is said that everything is cyclical.  Perhaps it is no coincidence that civilian space flight is becoming a reality.  Our ancestors left their country to evade the absolute power of their King.  Maybe it’s time we got off this rock.
