LeBron Wooo Hooo–Whatever.

So, San Antonio wins again. It is a sad day for the NBA, they were all cheering on Lebron. He, like those players with decent talent before him, has been compared to Jordan and the league would love another Jordan. The San Antonio Spurs, much like our Pistons, is a team and teams don’t sell apparently. Team basketball is all about fundamentals and not spectacular show and go circus shots.

The NBA is constantly crying about their ratings and see the second coming of Jordan as some sort of relief. It would appear that when Jordan played even people who were not basketball fans watched to see this amazing athlete. Fans equal money, because let’s face it the NBA is a business not a sporting organization. If an NBA player can be so fantastic to achieve a celebrity status the NBA gets more viewers and more money.

However, the NBA is also very careful to police the league and ensure that players maintain a role model status. Well, at least the players should not let the press get wind of those activities that may not be suitable for children to emulate. Take their savior Jordan for example, he often had temper tantrums and feuds with upper management, not to mention that he traveled to games in a separate plane or bus from the rest of “his team.” This is the conflict in my eyes, these guys can’t be role models and make you the big money. Look at the people who have the lime-light right now, Lohan, Hilton, Spears and that crazy minor league baseball coach; we love people when they are bad. Let the players do drugs and go to rehab, that would get plenty of press for the NBA.

See, the mistake that the NBA is making is sitting on their hands and waiting for the next messiah; if they believe that a celebrity is the only way they can make money then hire one. Put Michael Richards (Kramer) on a team, that would be fun. Or, shell out some dough and get Brad Pitt and Ben Stiller out there. Sure, this must be the answer they are looking for, right? Look at the ratings for dancing with the stars! This will work, the NBA will be raking in the dough! I suppose if they don’t have the guts to do that, they can always move the 3 point line again or give people 5 points for dunking the ball and -3 points for passing to make the game more spectacular.
